Getting organized…
It is so hard to be so busy all the time and to try to keep the laundry caught up, the dishes done, cook dinner, work all day, and still have your house clean enough so that drop in company is not a total downer. We have some ideas that may help you to get and stay organized.
Step 1: Analysis of Areas- Survey each room and be sure to jot down problem areas in a spiral notebook, but be sure that you put one problem per page. You should place the parts of the room that really bugs you. Some examples of these areas would be tables that are piled with mail; piles of shoes. Analyze each room this way and be sure to make a list of areas that you would like to improve. We recommend the following areas to be sure to check out for help needed: junk drawers, medicine cabinets, garages, etc.
Step 2: Analysis of Reasons: Figure out why the problem areas are disorganized and why the mess is happening. (Example: Why are the magazines overflowing? May be that the answer is that you never throw them away.) Do this process on each of the problem spots in the room before moving to another room. When you are done analyzing go to the next step.
Step 3: Solutions: We have to look for a way to solve the disorganization problem for each of the spots that you wrote about. Ask yourself the following: Do you need a tool to help you organize that area? Is it time to enforce or practice a habit? How can I fix this? Have a family meeting to discuss the way that you expect this to be handled so that it is no longer an issue.
Step 4:Implementation: Now it is time to fix the problem. Begin by making a list of tools needed and go buy them. Remember the tools will not work if you and your family do not use them. Be patient. It may take some time for your family to get used to the new way of doing things.
We recommend that you go to each of the problem spots daily until they are no longer problem spots. It may be necessary to choose one room to organize at a time, especially if you are in need of purchasing expensive tools to help with the organization. It is best if you involve your family as much as possible.
This will work if you are persistent. Remember, this is new to the entire family and it will take a while to get used to the new system.
