Painting cement floors.

Cement floors are found in many homes in the garage, basement, etc. They can be brightened up with a coat of paint and make the room they are in look fresh and brand new. The things you will need are: cat litter, a broom, mop, paint roller, baking soda, primer, flat latex paint, primer and painter’s tape (optional).

First, you need to lay down a coat of cat litter and baking soda. This will remove any grease that may be on the floor you are going to be working on. Sweep away the mixture and check the floors for any grease that may remain. You may have to treat these areas with grease remover with a commercial grade grease remover. Now mop the floor to remove any remaining dust. Let the floor dry for at least 3 days before you proceed.

Next, use a cement filler to repair any cracks. Follow the instructions for drying and curing that are on the product that you are using. Use a roller and apply the primer. Primer is used to assist the top coat in adhering to the cement. Be sure to use a high quality paint for the cement floor. Since the area sees a lot of traffic, you should use the best grade you can afford to ensure that it will last a long time. Use a medium size brush to paint around the edges of the floor then apply paint to the rest of the floor with a paint roller. If you are in the garage, it is best to work with the garage door open and start at the back of the garage and work your way forward.

There are many decorative looks you can achieve by using the tape to tape off patterns on the floor. You can make the floor look like tile, marble or whatever you choose.

TIPS: It is best to choose a time of the year when the weather is dry. Also, be sure that the floor does not have areas of standing water or water stains on it. This could indicate that you are having drainage or plumbing problems which should be addressed before you begin your project.

Ways to remove paint from carpets.

Have you ever been painting and OOPS, got paint on the floor? You would not be the first! Believe it or not, there is a solution to the problem.

Oil Paint is much easier to remove than latex paint, due to the fact that as latex paint dries, it dies the fibers of the carpet. If you happen to spill latex, be sure you treat it before it dries to prevent spreading and dying the fibers.

Below you will find some of the methods that can be used to remove latex paint stains from carpet. There are several methods that are used for removing latex

1. While the paint is still wet, take a clean cloth and blot the paint from the carpet. You should work your way from the outside of the spill to the inside to ensure that you do not cause it to spread.

2. Once you have blotted as much as possible from the area, take a detergent solution and apply it on the stained spot. Be sure to clean up the detergent solution with water. If the stain was fresh, there is a good chance you will remove it all from the carpet. Allow to dry and vaccuum.

3. If the stain is still there, put enough club soda on the area to dampen it. Sprinkle salt on the spot and leave untouched for a few minutes. Blot again with detergent solution.

Here is another method:

1. You can purchase a product called awesome and it is used for cleaning and degreasing. Just spray product on the area, scrub then blot.

2. Simple Green is another product that you should keep on hand. In the event of a spill, spray on the spot, scrub and blot.

3. A common method is to rub alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on the area then blot. Remember, that these will bleach your carpet so be sure to try it on an inconspicuous area first.

4. Nail polish remover is also a popular choice. Just pour the liquid on the stain spot, scrub the stain and then wash it with soapy water.

Tips to Remember

1. It is always better to start the treatment even when the paint stain is fresh because once dry; it becomes difficult to remove it completely.

2. If the latex paint stain dries up then it is better to take help of professional carpet cleaning service.

3. Test your carpet for color-fastness before applying any strong chemicals
